At the beginning of the year I had the pleasure of attending actress Brely Evans’ “Water Walkers Session” in Los Angeles. The 2-hour, very informative, intimate, and breakthrough session was not only inspiring but life changing. It allowed me to see my purpose and life in a different perspective. The main premise of the session was “getting out of the boat”. In the beginning of the session Brely had us call out everything that was hindering us and keeping us from hopping off the boat. Some of the main things that people named included fear, rejection, laziness, money, and the list goes on. So what is stopping you from getting off the boat and surrendering to your calling and purpose?
The biggest regret anybody can ever have if that “what if” or “I should have”. When you have that heavy burden that God has laid out on your heart to pursue, you MUST do it! Yes it seems scary at first, but it’s better to take that leap then to ponder and fear or stay stagnant then later regret not doing what you were supposed to do after you see someone else that hopped off the boat and is living out their purpose and is now happy and satisfied.
The biggest excuses that keeps people from hopping out the boat are money, children, and becoming too comfortable. People always complain on how they need more money to have more financial freedom yet, they will not do what it takes to get it. Yes you may have to start doing something else on the side in addition to your day job or maybe you don’t have a day job and you have been on the job hunt for months, years. You may not have the resources that those with a day job have who are balancing their purpose and work life, but you have more time than they do to really map out what you purpose is and what your passion is to fuse them together to make a career for yourself. Yes, it’s difficult, but that is where you find mentors to assist in guiding you along the way.
When you want to change your life and where you are at, you can! You can start today. So take that leap of faith and hop off that boat. What are you passionate about? What do you feel is missing in this world where you can contribute your passions to? What influencers do you follow on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn? Start reaching out to them and ask them if they wouldn’t mind mentoring you. They will respond back. They may not see your message right away, because they are out expanding and branding their business, but when they do respond back, be ready to be teachable and take notes. Use their advice and go for it! What’s the worst that can happen? You get a No. For every No you encounter, you get that much closer to your Yes, and sometimes, your first answer you get is a Yes when you start reaching out to the right people. But you won’t get to that Yes until you hop out that boat. Remember we make time for what really matters to us, so the more you say you want to do something, but you can’t because you just don’t have the time, that just means in reality you really do not have the TRUE passion and drive to do whatever it is and/or you are also not surrounded by other dream livers, not dream chases, but LIVERS! Surround yourself with other successful people and you’ll be successful.
