BET Weekend is always big in Los Angeles with several entertainment, sporting, discussion and celebrity gifting suites to flock to; however, events that always tend to stand out are the philanthropic ones. On Friday, June 27, TheRoot.com hosted its “Young, Black and Green” Event” at the Mondrian Skybar Hotel in West Hollywood. The event was a relaxed, sociable where L.A. socialites were able to mingle among each other and come together for a great cause during an iconic weekend in the City of Angels.
The purpose of “Young, Black & Green” event was to highlight President Obama’s Climate Action Plan. Throughout the evening several “Green Fact Moments” were highlighted through a variety of pieces centered at the event. Co-Host of the event, and actress/philanthropist, Tatyana Ali, also spoke on the reasons why she supports the issue and why it is important within our community.
“The Climate Change event at the Mondrian this evening was really spectacular. It was the perfect anchor for the #betawardsweekend. Young people of color are often courted as taste makers and trendsetters by corporate America and political campaigns. What if we actually digested how powerful we are and became leaders in protecting and perhaps healing our ecosystem?” Ali Stated.
