Poetry Corner: My City

Ignorance in your eyes we know it to be our beauty,

Words slip from his lips unknown to their world through the Jim Crow lens.

Raised without a village,

Our pillars unsecure shook to the core,

No other way out we learn to pillage because we’re pissed poor morally.

In all our majesty, brilliance, and our might transpired through our blackness,

Still fighting in the world to prove our manhood never shucking and jiving so lashes for my sins.

Controlled since birth dancing, singing, and balling painted as our only option out,

It’s much more to explore my little Black boys that’s why we can’t get it right living horribly.
