Poetry Corner: Grownish

In class I got notes I wrote,

So destructive they can sink boats.

Hope you can swim for every 10 breast remember give me 5 back strokes too hard,

So just sit there and float.

It’s not so hard now you say we can vote,

I use to buy work and make flips just to live well,

Now I’m being humble not trying to gloat.

Believe in the justice system it has vision,

Well not if you’re Black you’ll be better off smoking crack,

Well to survive a melee of police bullet attacks.

Then again I can’t say if they can identify all the shots fired in our backs!
