Poetry Corner: Black Face

Something White people do to make a joke,

But wipe away after play.

The same reason why Eric Garner got chocked,

But couldn’t wipe away as his breathless body lay.

Only mean something and respect when we play for and strap a glove, shoe, cleats and pads with lace.

Unsolved murders, missing children, recovered body organs missing without a trace.

The same one’s shackled and chained,

Then shipped to this strange cold dead place.

You can believe and pray,

But we know all they’ll ever see is the color on our face.
