Netflix, Norfolk State University to Create Virtual HBCU Tech Boot Camp

/

Earlier this year, Netflix made a multimillion-dollar commitment to advance social change and racial equity in the Black community with CEO Reed Hastings making a massive donation to HBCUs.

Recently, the entertainment giant continued its mission, announcing a partnership with Norfolk State University to create a virtual boot camp for students interested in entering the tech industry.

The new camp, designed for current students and alumni from 2019-2020, will launch in early 2021. The 16-week program will be divided into three program tracks: Java engineering, UX/UI design, and data science.

“At Netflix, we see the power of technology to introduce us to other communities and cultures every day. As we continue to invest in building the best service for our members, we want to invest in the best team to support it, said Kabi Gishuru, director of Netlfix’s  inclusion recruiting programs, in a press statement.

“Creating space in the industry for all voices will only make it stronger,” Gishuru added. “In addition to the boot camp, we are focusing on addressing our own gaps.”
