As many know the competition in the fashion industry is highly competitive, in so many areas around the country there are designers and models trying to make there mark. The same can also be said for Michigan & the Metro Detroit area. With that being said I am going to begin a series of features on designers and models from Michigan and the Metro Detroit.
The first to be featured is very highly motivated model by the name of Danielle Rice, better know as Dani. A very motivated and hard working young lady, Dani is carving out her mark in the fashion industry. With a growing portfolio, she’s a model in demand. I had the opportunity to do a photo shoot with this aspiring model and also sit down with her for a little talk about her modeling career.
So Dani tell me a little bit about yourself, where are your from and what is your background (education & current status).
Born and raised in Detroit Michigan attended Redford High School, International Academy or Design Technology & Colorado Technical University I’m oldest of three children and the Mother one.
Tell me Dani how did you fall into the profession of Modeling & what have you done to prepare yourself to be successful at becoming a great model?
As a child I was always into fashion but never thought I would be a model. I figured I was too short. I didn’t go along with modeling. Instead I said I wanted to work in retail and become a designer one day. I attended college for a few years studying fashion design and business management while working at a retail store. I got into modeling almost one year ago. I saw a post from a Face Book friend looking for female party promoters. I figured I had a nice personality and I could make some extra cash doing so. I went to the meeting not knowing it would be so many other girls there.
Come to find out it was a casting call for a fashion show. I had never modeled before but I walked the runway and the model’s coach liked my walk. I was instantly in the show. From my first show I went on to the next show. I started doing photo shoots, and other opportunities start coming my way such as appearing in music videos and hosting events.
At this point of your career, what is the most enjoyable & challenging part of being a successful model?
I am so in love with modeling I don’t want to do anything else. It’s my passion and I make sure I show it on camera and as well in person. It’s difficult to prepare yourself for the next blessing, they come as GOD plans them for you.
Modeling has its ups and downs like any other profession. The industry has standards and barriers that are not easily broken. It’s very competitive and you must have tough skin up under your make-up. Everyone may not like your “walk” or your “look” but that should not stop someone for trying. I am ambitious and I refuse to let anyone tell me that I can’t make it. I have confidence in myself.
GOD chose this life for me and I’m going to live, love and enjoy everyday as if I will never see it again.
So where do you see yourself five to ten years from now?
I see myself out of Michigan of course, more then likely ending up in L.A. I love it there…laughter. I would like to do only print modeling and videos.
What would be your ultimate modeling assignment?
My ultimate goal is to do a Covergirl or Revlon commercials and if not that at least be a spokes model…laughter.
How do you avoid getting caught up and becoming a model with that diva mentality, as so many models do?
I am feisty confident and sassy people say I am cocky as well. I am a strong woman and I believe in my talent. Having that pure diva mentality will stop people from working with u and acting that way isn’t very becoming. I am blessed with opportunities that can be easily taken from me. I remind myself of where I have been and where I will go. It drives me to success.
I’d like to thank Dani for her time, and we will most definitely keep our eyes open looking for great thing out of this young lady.
