India Arie is the epitome that represents all of us activists through music! Her new album, Worthy, gives us life. The album starts off with a soft, melodic instrumental that eases and calm your mind. Then we go into the first song, “What If”.

What if Martin didn’t stand up?
What if Rosa didn’t sit down?
What if Malcolm didn’t man up?
Where would we be now?
What if Marley didn’t get up, stand up?
What if the boys didn’t come to advance us?
And Mandela didn’t come to teach us?
Where would we be now?We are the ones we’ve been waitin’ for

We can change the world
We can change the world

Those words are powerful! We can basically keep fighting the fight that those before us started or we can forget it and the world will remain the same mess that it is in. It is up to us to change the world, and “What If” is that anthem!

Then there are the songs that remind us that we are worthy of that love that is meant for us. That real love, though. That love that is constant. Songs like, “Steady Love” and “In Good Trouble” reminds us that love still exists and that we can have it.

And finally, this world is crazy. India breaks it down in “Roller Coaster”, but then her song, “Hour of Love” reminds us to take time to heal, meditate and pray. These things are what will calm us on this wild ride of the World.

If you wanna know real feeling
Take the time for healing
A moment in the morning for prayer
Begin anew with sunrise
Wipe the dust from your eyes
Be rid of your disguises again
