Film/TV Producer Datari Turner to Host Master Class, Premiere Two Films at ABFF

Fresh off his NAACP Image Award nomination for the Showtime documentary Shut Up and Dribble, film and television producer Datari Turner will debut his latest works — the films Same Difference and If Not Now, When? — at the American Black Film Festival this month. Produced under his Datari Turner Productions enterprise, both films were selected in the festival’s Narrative Features category.

Same Difference, a mystery drama directed and written by Derege Harding, boasts a stellar cast including Essence Atkins, Terrence Jenkins, Edwina Findley and Demetrius Shipp Jr., among others. The story highlights the complexities of struggling with mental health. It will screen during ABFF on Friday, June 14 at 4:42pm at Regal Cinemas 18 Theater in Miami Beach.

Turner also co-produced the film If Not Now, When?, directed by Meagan Good and Tamara Bass. This heartfelt story about love, forgiveness, sisterhood and second chances will screen on Thursday, June 13 at 11:15am at Regal Cinemas 18 Theater.

Additionally, Turner will expand his footprint at ABFF by hosting a master class on “Producing Film and Television” on Sunday, June 16 from 9:00-10:30am at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel. The session offers current and aspiring industry professionals insight into packaging a project from A to Z and the opportunity to learn from one of Hollywood’s leading creators and visionaries.
