To some they still want to live the American Dream which the “white picketed fence” dream. You know, the great career, loving family, and nice big house in a quality suburban neighborhood. However, let’s just be real, that American Dream ish is for the birds. Who wants to work for someone else and build up their dream for the rest of their lives? You limit yourself by doing that. There’s nothing wrong with working for someone for a short-period of time before branching off on your own where you have no limitations.
But then there are those who are fine working a full-time job that has an excellent 401 (k) package, but they also want to learn to balance and start having other streams of income coming in. This is why founder of The Branding Muse, Emmelie De La Cruz, started her side hustle. She then fell in love with it after her peers began seeking her advice on job hunting, resumes, and cover letters.
“Entrepreneurship isn’t cute. It’s not an exit strategy or an alternative to your shitty job. Over the years I have found that many millennials are starting business and blogs for the wrong reasons: they feel like there is no other way to live the entrepreneurial lifestyle. And while everyone is out trying to be the boss, who is looking out for the people who are going to be employees? For the rest of you who want to make a living with multiple streams of income, one of them being a full-time job with benefits and a 401(K), you’re in the right place.
The Branding Muse is an online outlet where Cruz answers any and all questions from people who want to know how she got her job and what she did differently. It’s for those ones who keep hitting a dead end and can’t seem to turn around and find an alternate route.
“It’s something that found me, but I felt there was a need for it,” Cruz stated.
With only a year after she graduated and launched her blog, The Branding Muse was named one of the Top 100 Websites for Your Career by Forbes in 2013.
