Editors Corner: Spiritual Leaders This is Your Time to Shine

Within the light of the protests from Nation to Nation, one thing that remains evident is that our Nation is in a dire need of healing. And this is where are spiritual leaders come in. This their time to shine in darkness.

People want and need answers. They need solutions. They are anger. Biter. Hurt. And most of all tired. They need solutions due to these looters that are getting in the way of the message. They are hurt that after each protest, our people are still being gunned down and killed by those who are supposed to “protect and serve” the community. The best ones to give some sort of solutions right now are our spiritual leaders.

Going through Instagram, there have been several community leaders out there that are doing their thing right. One in particular caught my attention. @thepoeticactivist summed things all up. Ina recent post she stated:

“BELIEVERS: You don’t get to be comfortable anymore. Playtime is over. We ain’t here to look cute. The building has already been removed. It’s time to remove religion. Jesus was in the streets & He fought for the hopeless, the downcast, & the oppressed. Pray then MOVE. Pray then ACT. Pray then SEEK ways to be of true help during this time. Stand with those who are hurting & mourning. Protest with them. Raise a fist with them. Listen to them. Be with them. Fight with them.”

The part of removing religion hits HARD. This is not a popularity test of who can get recruit the most members to their congregations. It’s not time to judge people by their actions and condemn them. It is merely a time to stand up and help heal.

❗️PLAYTIME IS OVER:⁣❗️ I’ll go hoarse, grow weary, & lose ALL popularity to SPEAK TRUTH. Jesus wasn’t popular amongst the very people who claimed to love God. I’m used to what I say not being liked.⁣ ⁣ The prayers I believe need to go forth right now are “Lord, give us strategy. Show us how to move. Show us how to put our faith in motion. Let us truly be Christ like and get out of our bubble.”⁣ ⁣ BELIEVERS: You don’t get to be comfortable anymore. Fight with them. ⁣ ⁣ My God is a God of love. He’s also a God of JUSTICE. Don’t preach love & reconciliation at people without hearing their pain, acknowledging it, & preaching God’s justice as well. There’s more to Isaiah than just verse 40:31. Read it.⁣ ⁣ Pray justice for the deaths of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Steven Taylor, George Floyd, & SO many others they won’t show us. Pray AGAINST white supremacy, prejudice, racism, & systemic oppression. Pray against police corruption & brutality. Call city officials & government & demand change. Check on your black brothers and sisters who are hurting. Share their posts. Don’t dare think you can evangelize without acknowledging & standing with the pain of the people. This work isn’t easy. GET UNCOMFORTABLE. We talk about being uncomfortable in so many ways in our walk with Christ. THIS is necessary. ⁣ Non black Believers who have awareness: Talk to your friends and family who need awakening. Call out racism, white supremacy, & prejudice on the spot, ESPECIALLY amongst your circles. Keep asking what folks need.⁣ ⁣ Prayer changes things!!! And WITH that, MOVE, ACT, GO. ⁣Get dirty like Jesus did. ⁣ You can’t do a 5 minute prayer then just move on anymore. ⁣ Some of us don’t have that privilege. #Blacklivesmatter #BreonnaTaylor #georgefloyd #steventaylor #ahmaudarbery
