It is only three days in to the New Year and charities are starting to kick off their campaigns in giving back to the community and less fortunate. In the heart of Los Angeles, Covered With Love LA have been amped up in raising blankets for the homeless on skid row to accumulate with their first quarter campaign.
On Saturday, January 4, the warm hearted organization will be gearing up to exceed their blanket donation from last year of 250 blankets and raising over $1,000 which helped them exceed their goal of 1000 blankets. The goal this year is to raise 1,400 blankets; however, they can’t do it without the help of the community.
To help in raising the funds and blankets, Covered With Love LA will be hosting its 2nd Annual Benefit Concert on Saturday, January 4 from 5: 30 p.m. to 8 p.m at Destiny Community Church, 7227 Greenleaf Avenue, Whittier, CA 90602. There will be great food and music from featured Gospel artists Reason, MC Valiente, DJ Triune, Lyrics 1 and Trilogy. In addition to the food and music, there will also be a photo booth on site and plenty of giveaways. Tickets are available at just $5, or by bringing in a new blanket.
For those who would love to give and cannot attend the concert don’t fret because you have until February 8 to participate in the Blanket Outreach until February 8. Blankets will be distributed to homeless living throughout Los Angeles in places that include under bridges, in city parks and on the sidewalks of skid row.
About Covered L.A., Inc.
Covered with Love: L.A. INC. exists to offer hope and help through outreaches to over 58,000 homeless individuals of Los Angeles County. The organization is a outreach started in 2011 where members collect physical items and distribute them at their outreach events held through out the city with dense homeless populations. Since their inception, the organization has distributed over 2,000 new blankets to the homeless of Los Angeles.
Other ways that the organization is giving back is through a Hollywood Flash Give where the group passes out $5 gift cards from McDonalds and Starbucks to the homeless. In addition to the Flash Give, the team has started Project ImPossible where they provide job interview kits of hygiene products, food and clothes to young, homeless adults. They believe that everyone deserves to feel clean and confident on their job interview.
In addition to providing homeless with clothing, food and blankets, Covered with Love also provides lunch, conversation and prayer under the sun at Venice Beach.
