Water is life, and for children, water is crucially essential for healthy brain development. In the case of the city of Flint, Michigan water is inaccessible and unsafe to drink, shower and cook with. We all know of the ongoing tragic Flint Water Crisis. Unfortunately, the continuing need for safe drinking water is the worst case scenario for young children of Flint. The owners of Smarty Pants Water, which is a Toronto-based premium natural spring bottled water start-up by young Black female entrepreneurs want to help. On Thursday, July 13, the first batch of cases of Smarty Pants Water were delivered in Flint, and provided to the national face of the crisis, 10-year old Amariyanna Copeny, aka Little Miss Flint, and her family. The company is committed to continuing to donate bottled water to children charities in Flint, Michigan until the crisis is resolved.
“The Residence of Flint, Michigan has been without safe drinking water longer than Smarty Pants Water has been a company,” Tiffany Ford, Co-Founder explains. “That is absolutely appalling and as a business, we wanted to ensure we do our small part of contributing clean natural spring water for the children of Flint. It was a tweet from young activist Little Miss Flint that has inspired me to donate and to meet her. The children and families of Flint, Michigan deserve to have clean water and we must not only show solidarity but demand justice.”
